Brazilian mothers give birth in Burgos hospital after prenatal care in Belgium

The University Hospital of Burgos (HUBU) in Spain alerted the National Police after observing a pattern of Brazilian women coming from Belgium to give birth locally. Since early May, the obstetrics department recorded up to 30 deliveries with similar details: the women were in their 38th‑40th week of pregnancy, had received prenatal check‑ups in Belgium, and listed one of two addresses in the Las Merindades area (Medina de Pomar or Villarcayo). In many cases the same male companion accompanied the patients, and on one night three women with this profile were simultaneously in labor.

Hospital officials stressed that public hospitals must provide care regardless of nationality or residence. The latest counts for August and July show the pattern repeated 15‑18 times over two months, prompting an ongoing investigation.
