Brazilian municipal chambers approve new school programs

Municipal chambers in Brazil have approved new legislative projects aimed at enhancing educational environments through specialized social and environmental programs.

In Boa Vista, Roraima, the Municipal Chamber unanimously passed Bill No. 82/2026, establishing the ‘Meninas que Fazem a Diferença em Boa Vista’ program. Authored by Councilor Carol Dantas, the permanent initiative for public schools focuses on female empowerment, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The program aims to reduce school dropout rates and provide mentorship, financial education, and violence prevention, with priority given to girls in socially vulnerable situations.

In Feira de Santana, the Municipal Chamber approved the ‘Plantar para Colher’ program. Proposed by Councilor Lú de Ronny, the project introduces school gardens within municipal schools using community spaces and idle public land. The initiative integrates environmental and nutritional education across various academic subjects. The program emphasizes sustainable cultivation and allows for the use of harvested food in school meals or for community hunger relief projects.
