Brazilian municipal health conferences rally to strengthen the SUS

Municipal health conferences were held in several Brazilian cities, including Campo Grande, Ubatuba, Itabira, Orleans, Caxias and Boa Vista. The meetings gathered users, health workers, managers and civil‑society representatives to discuss and draft proposals for the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS).

The theme common to many of the events was “Saúde, Democracia, Soberania e SUS: cuidar do povo é cuidar do Brasil.” Participants highlighted the importance of social participation, sustainable financing, climate‑related health impacts and social‑environmental justice. In Campo Grande, superintendente Ana Paula Resende said, “As melhores políticas públicas são construídas quando ouvimos quem utiliza os serviços, quem trabalha diariamente no SUS e quem vivencia a realidade dos territórios.” In Ubatuba, indigenous leader Marcos Tupã stressed, “O SUS é um direito conquistado pela população brasileira e deve ser fortalecido por todos.”

The proposals approved at the municipal level will be forwarded to state and national health conferences, aiming to influence broader SUS policy and resource allocation across Brazil.
