Brazilian municipal legislatures implement new integrity and ethics policies
Municipal legislative bodies in Brazil are adopting new frameworks to enhance governance and ethical conduct. In Itajaí, Santa Catarina, the City Council has instituted a Policy of Integrity and Transparency. This initiative, supported by Augusto Nardes, a minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), establishes guidelines for administrative management and public agent conduct to prevent irregularities and increase efficiency.
In Curitiba, the City Council is preparing to vote on a new Code of Integrity, Ethics, and Conduct. The proposed resolution, which has been in progress for ten months, expands the existing rules to include regulations on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by public agents. The code mandates full human review of AI-generated content and prohibits the input of sensitive or confidential data into public AI tools. It also addresses conduct on social media and during remote work, setting limits on gifts and providing protections for whistleblowers.
