Brazilian municipal officials and drivers penalized for drunk driving

A commissioned employee of the Jataí municipal government was dismissed after residents recorded him drinking alcohol and then driving a city‑owned vehicle outside of working hours. The municipality confirmed the termination and reiterated that officials must follow strict rules for the use of public cars.

In Limeira, a 70‑year‑old man whose driver’s licence had been suspended was stopped by the municipal guard for erratic driving. Officers observed strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and loss of balance. A breath‑alyzer showed a blood‑alcohol level of 0.40 mg/L, above the legal limit. He was arrested, had his licence confiscated and the vehicle impounded.
