Brazilian municipalities advance housing projects and flood protection
In Denise, Mato Grosso, Mayor Aldo Souza (also known as Marrom) presented progress on 50 housing units under the SER Família Habitação program's Faixa Zero, with construction at various stages aimed at providing homes for vulnerable families. The municipal health secretary, Danielle Menk, also announced a simplified procedure for obtaining medicines at the Basic Pharmacy, requiring only a prescription and CPF.
In Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, the city began the first phase of demolishing 70 houses in the Vila Dique neighborhood to clear the area for flood‑protection system works. Of the affected families, 53 have been relocated to homes purchased through the federal "Compra Assistida" program, while others are in temporary accommodation. The demolition is coordinated by the municipal housing, water and sewage, and works departments, with support from public prosecutors, public defenders, Caixa Econômica Federal and the federal government.
