Brazilian municipalities Apodi and Tamandaré nominated for Green Destinations awards

The Brazilian municipalities of Apodi, in Rio Grande do Norte, and Tamandaré, in Pernambuco, have been recognized in the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories 2026 competition. This international initiative, organized by the Dutch Green Destinations Foundation, highlights destinations that implement inspiring solutions for sustainable tourism.

Apodi was selected for its initiative regarding the preservation of indigenous culture and memory, specifically through the Luíza Cantofa Indigenous Museum. This project aims to integrate the identity of original peoples into local tourism development. The recognition was announced during the Global Green Destinations Conference in Slovenia.

Tamandaré is competing with the project ‘Cores de Volta ao Mar’, which focuses on the restoration of coral reef ecosystems. The initiative utilizes a coral biofactory to cultivate and transplant corals, working in cooperation with the Center for Research and Conservation of Marine Biodiversity of the Northeast (Cepene) to enhance environmental monitoring and marine conservation.
