Brazilian municipalities approve salary bonuses and benefits for public workers

The Câmara Municipal of Barra de São Francisco passed Project Law 033/2026, authorising a temporary R$500 monthly allowance for about 680 municipal education staff. The benefit, paid in six installments from July to December 2026, covers teachers, school directors, coordinators, special‑education monitors, pedagogical support, caretakers, and administrative aides who meet federal education funding criteria. Funding will come from the municipal education secretariat’s budget and the allowance will not affect salaries, retirement calculations or other benefits.

In Campos dos Goytacazes, Mayor Frederico Paes signed a law granting a 4.26% salary readjustment to roughly 20 000 municipal employees, retirees, pensioners, temporary hires and commissioned officials. The raise takes effect on the July payroll, with retroactive payments for the May base date to be paid in August and September. The adjustment is estimated to cost about R$5 million per month. The same legislation also creates an assistance aid for retirees and pensioners. Both municipalities say the measures reflect a commitment to value public‑sector workers while maintaining fiscal balance.
