Brazilian municipalities expand electronic waste recycling initiatives
Municipalities in Brazil are expanding initiatives for the proper disposal of electronic waste to promote sustainability and the circular economy.
In Araguaína, the “Eletrônico não é Lixo” caravan will hold collection events at the Convention Center on October 13 and 14. The program, a collaboration between the Araguaína City Hall, the Government of Tocantins, and the organization Programando o Futuro, accepts items such as cell phones, computers, monitors, printers, and routers. The initiative aims to prevent soil and water contamination caused by improper disposal. The event will also feature an educational exhibition in an adapted bus, interactive games, and lectures on reverse logistics.
In Marituba, the local government has increased its Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) to facilitate the disposal of electronics including tablets, chargers, and small appliances. The collection network includes locations such as Usina da Paz and the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability. For items weighing more than 30 kg, the municipality offers free home collection upon request via a QR code.
