Brazilian municipalities expand environmental education for youth

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing various environmental education initiatives aimed at younger generations. In Brumado, the City Hall is expanding its environmental education actions through the ‘5R’s Workshop’. This program teaches students the principles of Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Refuse to promote sustainability and proper waste disposal.

In Juazeiro do Norte, the Municipal Environmental Authority (AMAJU) hosted a sensory exhibition titled ‘Educational Sensory Ecological Station: Connecting Senses to Nature’ at a local preschool. The initiative uses art and sensory interaction—involving sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste—to foster environmental awareness in early childhood. The approach is designed to be inclusive, allowing children with disabilities and neurodivergent students to engage with nature through different forms of perception.
