Brazilian municipalities expand IPTU incentive programs with prize draw and social tax relief

The city of Diamantino (MT) held the first draw of its IPTU Premiado 2026 campaign, awarding a total of R$ 8,000 to six taxpayers who paid their property tax on time. Winners were selected through an electronic system, and municipal officials said the program aims to boost compliance and fund local services. Rodolfo Porto, tax auditor and campaign chair, said, "O IPTU Premiado é uma forma de reconhecer quem mantém suas obrigações fiscais em dia."

In Niterói, the municipal finance department launched a series of outreach mutirões to help families in the Minha Casa Minha Vida‑Faixa I program apply for IPTU Social, which cuts property tax and waste‑collection fees by more than 80%. The effort includes on‑site assistance at residential complexes and guidance on required documentation. Subsecretary Vinicius Fundo explained that the goal is to "garantir que as famílias tenham acesso a um direito que muitas vezes deixa de ser solicitado por falta de informação". The initiative is scheduled to continue across additional housing projects throughout July and August.
