Brazilian municipalities grant tax relief to micro and service firms

The municipality of Foz do Iguaçu opened an application window from 1 to 31 August for micro‑enterprises to request a reduction of municipal taxes. Discounts range from 20 % to 100 % depending on revenue, as set out in Complementary Law No. 229/2014. Eligible firms must have annual turnover up to R$ 267,984.80 and submit the request electronically through the city portal, providing registration, revenue proof and accountant details.

Porto Alegre’s municipal government launched a program to renegotiate outstanding ISS (service tax) debts until 21 December. Taxpayers can obtain up to a 95 % discount on interest and fines, either by paying a lump sum or through installments, with the full balance due within the year. The scheme covers active and inactive debts, cancelled installments, judicial collections and debts of Simples Nacional firms, and is intended to boost municipal revenue amid the ongoing tax‑reform transition.
