João Pessoa implements risk reduction plan and community dialogue

In João Pessoa, the Municipal Civil Defense Coordination (Compdec-JP) and seven other municipal secretariats held a technical training workshop for the Municipal Risk Reduction Plan (PMRR). The workshop included lectures and field visits to demonstrate vulnerable areas, focusing on mapping susceptible zones and developing mitigation measures for floods and landslides, which are frequent during the winter.

Civil Defense coordinator Kelson Chaves noted that the integrated system aims to improve preventive actions and response capacity. He highlighted that the city has recorded 2,118 days without fatalities resulting from natural phenomena.

Additionally, the Executive Secretariat for Popular Participation (SEPP) has launched a new cycle of ordinary meetings with regional councilors across the 14 regions of João Pessoa. These meetings, running through December 3, serve as a dialogue platform for residents to present community demands and contribute to local solutions.
