Brazilian municipalities implement new environmental and animal control policies

Municipal authorities in Brazil are implementing new local environmental and public safety measures. In Atibaia, the City Hall has called for community participation to develop the Management Plan for the Atibaia River Environmental Protection Area (APA). Through participatory workshops scheduled for October 2026, residents and stakeholders will help define land use zoning, conservation actions, and public investment priorities to balance economic development with water resource preservation.

In Três Lagoas, the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Agribusiness has outlined the protocol for seizing large animals found roaming public streets. The process, triggered by citizen reports, involves inspection and notification of owners. If owners are not found or if offenses recur, animals such as cattle, horses, and pigs may be seized. Owners have 30 days to reclaim animals by paying fines and daily fees; otherwise, the animals may be donated to philanthropic entities.
