Brazilian municipalities implement new measures for Youth and Adult Education

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing various measures to support Youth and Adult Education (EJA). In Nordestina, a new law establishes the ‘Bolsa EJA’, providing a monthly allowance of R$ 330 to students aged 15 and older to combat school dropout rates. To qualify, students must maintain at least 75% attendance and meet specific socioeconomic criteria, such as being a recipient of Bolsa Família or having a family income of up to two minimum wages.

In João Pessoa, the municipal government is focusing on expanding literacy access through decentralized educational actions. The program aims to reach diverse groups, including seniors and people with disabilities, by bringing classrooms closer to residential neighborhoods and partnering with civil society organizations to facilitate learning outside traditional school units.
