Anicuns residents denounce tree removal in municipal forest

Residents of Anicuns, in western Goiás, have reported the removal of more than 200 trees from the Ary Ribeiro Valadão Municipal Forest during revitalization works. This figure significantly exceeds the simplified Environmental Impact Report (Rima) from the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment (Semma), which predicted the removal of only 30 specimens.

The Public Ministry of Goiás (MPGO) has opened a civil inquiry to investigate potential irregularities in the environmental intervention. While the State Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad) conducted an inspection, it stated that its report is still being prepared. Local residents have documented the removal through photos and videos, noting that the cuts included centennial trees such as jatobás and jacarandás.
