Brazilian municipalities launch 2026 IPTU tax discount programs

The municipality of Taboão da Serra in São Paulo has opened a fiscal amnesty from 1 July to 10 August 2026, allowing residents with overdue municipal taxes to renegotiate debts with up to a 100 % discount on fines and interest. Payments can be spread over 1 to 24 installments, with larger discounts for shorter payment plans. The agreement is finalized after the first installment is paid; missed installments trigger a 0.33 % daily penalty and 1 % monthly interest.

In Belo Horizonte, the city council is offering a 2 % discount on the total IPTU balance for the July‑December semester of 2026 if taxpayers settle the whole amount by 15 July. The discount applies only to accounts that are current, and the new digital tax notices are available online. The measure aims to encourage timely payments and reduce administrative costs.

Both programs are part of broader municipal efforts to improve cash flow and incentivise tax compliance ahead of the 2026 fiscal year.
