Brazilian municipalities launch fiscal education programs for students

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing educational programs focused on fiscal and financial literacy for elementary school students.

In Rio Branco, the Municipal Education Secretariat (SEME) launched the ‘Na Ponta do Lápis’ program. The initiative serves 8,104 students from the 1st to 5th grades across 28 schools. The program aims to teach students about citizenship, the importance of taxes, the management of public resources, and the recognition of public goods as collective heritage. The project is a partnership between the Secretariat of Education and the Secretariat of Finance.

In Jaguariaíva, the second edition of a Fiscal Education Program is underway for 4th and 5th-grade students. This initiative focuses on the social function of taxes, public budgeting, and the responsible use of public funds. The program is a technical cooperation between the Public Prosecutor's Office of Accounts of Paraná (MPC-PR) and the Association of Municipal Tax Auditors and Inspectors of Paraná (AFISCOPR), with support from the local government. The municipality previously served as a pilot site for this educational model.
