Brazilian municipalities launch free public fitness centers
Municipalities in Brazil are expanding access to free physical activity through new public health and fitness initiatives.
In Imperatriz, the local government is implementing its first public gym in the city center. Part of the ‘Academias do Brasil IV’ project in partnership with the Confederação Brasileira de Culturismo, Musculação e Fitness (CBCM-F), the facility will offer professional supervision by physical education instructors. Users will be required to complete a physical aptitude questionnaire (PAR-Q) and use a digital platform for registration and scheduling.
In Maricá, the city has inaugurated its fourth ‘Academia da Saúde’ in São José do Imbassaí. Located adjacent to the São José I Family Health Unit, the covered facility allows for continuous exercise regardless of weather conditions. The program integrates with primary healthcare services to promote disease prevention, social interaction, and regular physical activity among residents.
