Brazilian Municipalities Launch Integrated Elder Care Programs

The municipality of Prado in Bahia coordinated municipal health and social‑assistance teams to provide comprehensive care at the local nursing home. Residents received medical examinations, preventive screenings, dental care from the mobile Brasil Sorridente unit, vaccination updates through Vacina Bahia, and activities promoting mobility and social interaction led by a multidisciplinary primary‑care team.

In Parauapebas, the city government partnered with Project Rondon to hold the "Cuidando de Quem Cuida" workshops for elderly caregivers and atypical families. The sessions offered health education, mental‑health support, guidance on chronic‑disease management, swallowing difficulties, physiotherapy, and medication use. Participants also benefited from a child‑care space, enabling families to focus on the training.

Both initiatives aim to strengthen preventive health services, improve quality of life for older adults, and support those who provide their daily care.
