Brazilian municipalities launch June campaigns to combat elder abuse

Municipal councils in Brazil are promoting a June-wide campaign to raise awareness of violence against older adults. In Campo Grande, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Elderly Persons will hold an event on June 15 at the São João Bosco Nursing Home, aiming to strengthen community protection networks and encourage reporting of neglect, financial exploitation and other forms of abuse.

Meanwhile, the consumer protection office (Procon) in Canoas will run a series of activities under the "Junho Violeta" theme, including a discussion forum on June 11 and a cultural outing on June 26 in Porto Alegre. These actions target financial fraud, super‑indebtedness and broader elder‑rights issues, involving officials from municipal social services and local experts.

Both initiatives stress the right of every person to live with dignity and call on families, institutions and public authorities to actively safeguard the elderly.
