Brazilian municipalities launch maternal and childhood health programs

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing local health and social assistance initiatives focused on maternal care and early childhood development.

In Palmital, the Department of Health has launched a new edition of the ‘Sementes de Amor’ (Seeds of Love) course. The program provides pregnant women with a space for exchanging experiences and receiving essential information regarding maternal and infant well-being. Sessions are held at the Mental Health Outpatient Clinic, with groups limited to 10 participants to ensure personalized care. The city also provides free transportation from health units to facilitate attendance.

In Altos, the ‘Semana do Bebê’ (Baby Week) is being held through the municipal social assistance and health networks. The program includes activities at CRAS centers and Basic Health Units (UBS), featuring workshops, conversation circles, and support for the ‘Criança Feliz’ (Happy Child) Program. The initiative aims to strengthen the protection network for children and integrate families with available public policies and services.
