Primavera do Leste launches municipal food security and nutrition plan

The municipality of Primavera do Leste held strategic meetings on 5 and 6 August to draft a Municipal Food Security and Nutrition Plan (SAN). Coordinated by the Secretaria Municipal de Assistência Social, the process brought together officials from the Education and Agriculture departments, municipal councils, civil society groups and private partners.

The plan sets long‑term guidelines to ensure universal access to healthy food, strengthen family farming and reduce food‑insecurity levels. Technical support is provided by the organization Nutri‑A, which integrates the initiative with the Programa Raízes da Transformação, a project financed by the Fundação Cargill. Juliana Teodora, Nutri‑A’s director of Research and Innovation, highlighted that the effort will back community kitchens, food banks and free markets. Fundação Cargill’s representative Yara confirmed a formal technical cooperation agreement with the city and the Food Security Council, linking the plan to a broader state‑wide and national movement against hunger.
