Hospital Maria Amélia Lins to become ophthalmology center in Belo Horizonte
The former Maria Amélia Lins Hospital in Belo Horizonte is being converted into an ophthalmology center managed by Santa Casa BH. The facility, located in the Santa Efigênia neighborhood, will transition from orthopedic services to specialized eye care under the Unified Health System (SUS).
The project involves a R$ 5.8 million investment in renovations and adaptations. The goal is to increase monthly capacity to approximately 120 ophthalmic surgeries and over 170 minor procedures. Additionally, the building will be adapted to offer peritoneal dialysis services, with 47 new vacancies expected by April 2027.
This reorganization is intended to free up space within other Santa Casa BH areas to expand services such as auditory health and diagnostic imaging. The agreement for the use of the property has an initial duration of five years, with the possibility of renewal.
