Brazil proposes 2027 budget with minimum wage increase to R$ 1,741
The Brazilian Federal Government has submitted the 2027 Annual Budget Law (PLOA) to Congress, which includes a proposed increase of the national minimum wage to R$ 1,741. This 7.4% adjustment would impact millions of workers, as well as retirees and those receiving the Continuous Provision Benefit (BPC).
Across various municipalities, local governments are also advancing their fiscal planning. In Ribeirão Pires, the 2027 budget is projected at R$ 634 million, while Cuiabá is holding public hearings to discuss its 2027 priorities. In Porto Alegre, the City Council approved budget changes for 2026 to correct technical impediments, and a new bill is being debated to establish a regulatory framework for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Other regional fiscal developments include Rondonópolis approving a debt negotiation program, Boa Vista implementing a tax recovery program (Refis), and the Distrito Federal approving a R$ 636 million supplementary credit, largely for public transport. Meanwhile, Rio Grande do Sul has submitted a 2027 budget projecting a R$ 4 billion deficit.
