Brazilian municipalities modernize public transport fleets
Municipalities in Brazil are advancing public transportation fleet modernization programs. In São João da Barra, Mayor Carla Caputi oversaw the delivery of two new air-conditioned and accessible buses to the city's free transport service, known as “Vermelhinhos”. The fleet currently consists of 17 buses operating across six lines, serving over 100,000 passengers monthly.
In Goiânia, Mayor Sandro Mabel announced the delivery of 19 new Euro 6 technology buses as part of the Nova RMTC program. These vehicles feature air conditioning, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and security cameras. The initiative aims to renew 100% of the metropolitan fleet by 2027, with approximately 60% already updated. The new Euro 6 engines are noted for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 80% and particulate matter by 50% compared to previous standards.
