Brazilian municipalities offer up to 43% discount on 2026 IPTU payments

The city of Chapadão do Sul in Mato Grosso do Sul announced that taxpayers who pay the 2026 Urban Property Tax (IPTU) in a single installment by July 10 can receive a discount of up to 43%. The discount is built from a 30% reduction for full‑payment, an additional 10% for owners who have paid the tax on time for the past five years, and up to a further 3% for properties equipped with street‑facing video‑monitoring cameras.

In São Luís, Maranhão, the municipal finance office also set a July 10 deadline for the 2026 IPTU. Residents who settle the tax in a single payment will obtain a 15% discount. Payment slips can be generated online through the city's portal or collected at designated service points. Both municipalities highlighted that IPTU revenues fund essential public services such as health, education, urban mobility, sanitation and infrastructure.
