Brazilian municipalities open health council elections
The municipalities of Botucatu and Ubatuba in Brazil have opened registration processes for their respective Municipal Health Councils for the 2026–2028 biennium.
In Botucatu, the Municipal Health Secretariat is accepting applications from interested parties until November 13. The council serves as a platform for social participation in the creation, monitoring, and oversight of public health policies, aiming to strengthen the Unified Health System (SUS) through community involvement and resource transparency.
In Ubatuba, the election process for the Municipal Health Council (Comus) is open from October 28 to November 6. The council consists of 32 seats divided to ensure social parity: half are reserved for social movements, neighborhood associations, and civil society (including indigenous and quilombola communities); one quarter is for health professional unions and class councils; and the final quarter is allocated to the government and service providers.
