Brazilian municipalities Praia Grande and Várzea Grande launch IPTU discount programs

The city of Praia Grande (São Paulo state) opened a registration period for IPTU discounts and exemptions for the 2027 fiscal year. Eligible residents – retirees, pensioners, people with disabilities and war veterans – can receive up to a 60% discount if their monthly income is between one and five minimum wages, a 30% discount for incomes up to ten minimum wages, or full exemption for disabled persons and veterans. Applications must be submitted online by 30 June, with a renewal required for those who first received the benefit in 2021.

In Várzea Grande (Mato Grosso state), the municipal government continues to accept IPTU, alvará and Refis (tax regularisation) payments, offering discounts of up to 80% on outstanding tax debts, including ISS, IPTU and alvará fees. Taxpayers can obtain assistance in person at municipal offices or via WhatsApp, and payments can be made at lottery houses using the property registration number or the taxpayer’s CPF.
