Brazilian municipalities prepare cemeteries for All Souls' Day

Municipalities in Brazil are conducting maintenance and setting regulations for public cemeteries ahead of All Souls' Day (Dia de Finados) on November 2.

In Óbidos, the Municipal Secretariat of Sanitation, Urbanism, and Infrastructure (SEURBI) has established a deadline for construction and painting works at the São João Batista Cemetery. All such interventions must be completed by October 25, 2026, to allow for a general cleaning operation starting October 26. This measure aims to improve accessibility and safety for visitors.

In Natal, the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Services (Semsur) has begun cleaning, weeding, tree pruning, lighting maintenance, and structural repairs across the city's eight public cemeteries. These efforts, including work at the Bom Pastor I and II sites, are intended to ensure organized and well-lit environments for families paying their respects. On November 2, Natal's public cemeteries will operate with extended hours from 7:00 to 18:00.
