Brazilian municipalities prepare cemeteries for All Souls' Day

Various Brazilian municipalities are implementing maintenance and regulatory measures in preparation for All Souls' Day on November 2nd.

In São José do Rio Preto, authorities have set a deadline of Thursday (22nd) for any construction or renovation work on family graves in municipal cemeteries. From Friday (23rd) until the holiday, only cleaning is permitted to ensure sites are clear of debris for visitors. Additionally, the municipality has authorized 46 street vendor spots near its three cemeteries for the holiday period.

In Sinop, the municipal government has launched a two-week task force at the Santo Antônio Municipal Cemetery. The work includes general cleaning, painting, and the construction of curbs to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.

Similarly, the municipality of Sombrio has begun a maintenance program across its six cemeteries, starting with painting and followed by cleaning and grass cutting. Following the holiday, Sombrio plans to transition these efforts into dengue fever prevention measures by eliminating standing water in cemetery areas.
