Brazilian municipalities promote agroforestry and family farming support

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing local initiatives to support sustainable agriculture and family farming. In São Gonçalo do Rio Abaixo, students from the ‘Bombeiro Mirim’ project participated in a practical lesson on Agroforestry Systems (SAF). The session, led by the Secretariat of the Environment, taught students how to combine food crops with trees to protect soil and mimic natural ecosystems. Key crops in the area include coffee, cocoa, and various fruits.

In Itabuna, the Secretariat of Agriculture and Environment (SEAGRIMA) conducted field visits to the Piaçaveira community to engage with small-scale and family farmers. The initiative aims to identify investment needs, strengthen local agro-industries, and improve rural quality of life through direct dialogue between technical staff and producers.
