Brazilian municipalities restrict cemetery works ahead of All Souls' Day

Municipalities in Brazil are implementing restrictions on cemetery works and maintenance ahead of All Souls' Day on November 2.

In Jaraguá do Sul, the local government has established a schedule for tomb construction, renovation, and cleaning. Construction and renovation services must be completed by October 23, with all debris removed by that date. From October 24 to November 4, only services necessary for burials will be permitted. The city has also extended visiting hours from October 29 through the holiday and issued warnings against using containers that could collect water and facilitate the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

In Colíder, Mayor Rodrigo Luiz Benassi issued a decree suspending all private construction, reconstruction, and painting in municipal cemeteries from October 19 to November 3. This measure aims to facilitate cleaning and organization for the expected increase in visitors. While major works and heavy machinery are prohibited during this window, burials, municipal maintenance, and minor emergency repairs using manual tools remain permitted.
