Brazilian municipalities seize vehicles and close illegal waste sites in João Pessoa and Campinas
In João Pessoa, the Metropolitan Civil Guard arrested three suspects caught discarding waste in the protected Gramame area. Police seized the vehicle and trailer used to transport the material and handed the suspects over to the civil police for prosecution under federal environmental law. The operation was part of a task force that also arrested a driver for illegal dumping two days earlier and involved the municipal environment, urban cleaning and mobility agencies.
In Campinas, municipal officials shut down a clandestine recycling depot in the Cambuí neighborhood, fined the property owner about R$ 25 000 and reclaimed possession of the land. Teams removed roughly ten trucks of scrap metal, furniture, electronics and other waste, cleaning the site with a tractor. This was the second illegal depot closed by the city within 15 days.
