Brazilian municipalities update student transit benefits

In Juiz de Fora, the municipal government has begun distributing a new batch of student free pass cards (Passe Livre Estudantil) to public school students. The cards, which provide free urban transit between home and school, are being delivered directly by educational institutions. To date, approximately 40,000 cards have been distributed, with five million uses recorded in the first year alone. Students must complete mandatory registration via an online platform or at Diga units and perform facial biometric registration through the AtlasMob app to activate the benefit.

In Curitiba, Urbs (Urbanização de Curitiba S.A.) has introduced a new service allowing student cards, which grant half-fare transit rights, to be delivered directly to residents' homes. This digital modernization allows for online document uploads and home delivery for a fee of R$ 14.79, replacing the previous requirement to collect cards in person. Eligibility for the half-fare benefit remains subject to specific rules, including family income and a minimum travel distance of one kilometer between residence and school.
