Brazilian Navy advances Tamandaré Class Frigate Program
The Tamandaré Class Frigate Program in Brazil has reached two significant milestones in the development of its naval fleet. In Itajaí, the keel laying ceremony was held for the Mariz e Barros (F203), the fourth ship in the program and the final vessel of the first batch scheduled for delivery to the Brazilian Navy by 2029. This ceremony marks the beginning of the structural assembly of the vessel.
Simultaneously, the Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201), the second unit of the class, has commenced sea acceptance tests. The vessel departed the TKMS Estaleiro Brasil Sul to undergo performance evaluations in real navigation conditions, including testing propulsion, energy generation, automation, and safety systems. The F201 is expected to be delivered to the Brazilian Navy in the first half of 2027 following the completion of these tests and technical training for its crew.
