Brazil Navy incorporates Mangaratiba patrol ship
The Brazilian Navy has officially incorporated the Mangaratiba (P73), the fourth vessel of the Macaé Class, into its fleet. The incorporation ceremony took place at the Navy Arsenal in Rio de Janeiro, marking the transition from construction to operational service.
Designed to operate in both maritime and fluvial environments, the ship will be stationed under the jurisdiction of the 4th Naval District in Belém. Its primary missions include patrolling the mouth of the Amazon River and the Equatorial Margin, protecting oil and gas platforms, conducting search and rescue operations, and providing humanitarian assistance to isolated populations.
The vessel features a steel hull, an aluminum superstructure, and a displacement of approximately 500 tons. It possesses an operational range of about 2,500 nautical miles. Key technological advancements include the Georeferenced Command and Control System (SisC2Geo), developed by the Navy Research Institute, and a X-band satellite communication system to enhance situational awareness and coordination in remote regions.
