Brazilian Navy surf warning Rio de Janeiro 2.5 metre waves beach safety

The Brazilian Navy’s Maritime Rescue Group issued a surf (ressaca) alert for the Rio de Janeiro coastline, effective from 15:00 on Saturday (July 4) until 18:00 on Sunday (July 5). The warning cites waves that may reach up to 2.5 metres in height.

Authorities urged beachgoers, swimmers, surfers, cyclists and fishermen to stay off the water and avoid coastal promenades, following instructions from the Fire Department and maritime rescue teams. The alert coincided with a cold front bringing cloudy skies, light to moderate rain, and temperatures ranging from a low of 15 °C at night to a high of 26 °C during the day. Special monitoring was planned for the Copacabana fan fest where thousands will watch the Brazil‑Norway football match.
