Brazilian Navy sets safety rules for 2026 Círio Fluvial

The Brazilian Navy has released safety regulations for the 2026 Círio Fluvial, a religious pilgrimage scheduled for October 10 in Guajará Bay. To ensure security, the Amazon Oriental Port Authority will establish an isolation zone around the Hydrooceanographic Ship ‘Garnier Sampaio’, which will carry the sacred image of Nossa Senhora de Nazaré.

The event will involve 50 support vessels, split equally between the Brazilian Navy and other agencies. These vessels will carry military personnel and emergency medical services (SAMU) to handle potential incidents.

Safety protocols include mandatory inspections of all large vessels to verify documentation, operator licensing, and life-saving equipment. Under Portaria No. 69, large vessels (Gross Tonnage of 100 or greater) must remain to the right of the isolation cord, while smaller vessels must stay to the left. Entering the isolation zone surrounding the main ship is strictly prohibited.
