Brazilian news consumers favor social media even as trust in media falls
A recent guide on interpreting election polls stresses the need to examine margin of error, confidence level, sample size, collection period, sponsor, and exact wording, warning that polls are snapshots of voter intention rather than election forecasts.
The Reuters Digital News Report 2026 shows that worldwide 54% of people now get news from social‑media and video platforms, yet only 22% trust the information there. In Brazil, leading news outlets such as CNN Brasil and O Globo retain credibility scores between 53% and 62%, but overall public confidence in news has dropped to 36%, the lowest in 12 years. Only 10% of global users turn to AI chatbots for news and just 20% trust the answers they receive. Additionally, 47% of Brazilians admit to avoiding news frequently, with the highest avoidance among 18‑ to 24‑year‑olds.
