Brazilian North and Center‑West regions express AI job‑security worries

A Febraban Observatório survey conducted by IPESPE in June shows that a majority of residents in Brazil's North region (51%) view artificial intelligence as a threat to jobs, while nearly half of those in the Center‑West (49%) share the same concern. The North also recorded 39% of respondents seeing AI as equally risky and opportunistic, whereas the Center‑West reported 29% with a balanced view and 20% expecting more opportunities than risks.

Awareness of AI is high in both regions, with around 88‑89% having heard of the technology and 42‑28% claiming good knowledge of it. Usage is common: 67% of respondents in the North and 54% in the Center‑West have used AI tools, primarily for information searches (75% in the North, 61% in the Center‑West). Other uses include creating videos and images and assisting with professional tasks. The main perceived benefits are learning new things and saving time.

Sociologist Antonio Lavareda, president of IPESPE’s Scientific Council, noted that the findings align with ongoing national debates about an AI‑specific legal framework and regulatory efforts by data‑protection authorities.
