Brazilian nurse dies in Portugal after allergic reaction during honeymoon

Amanda Marinho Nascimento, a 29-year-old Brazilian nurse from Ceilândia, Distrito Federal, died in Portugal following a severe allergic reaction to seafood. The incident occurred in Leiria on Wednesday, October 21, during her honeymoon with her husband, Tiago Nascimento.

According to her husband, the reaction began approximately two hours after they ate at a seafood restaurant. While Amanda was known to be allergic to shrimp, she reportedly consumed what she believed to be breaded fish, which turned out to be squid or shrimp. The allergy triggered an asthma crisis and subsequent cardiorespiratory arrest.

Emergency services provided initial aid in Leiria, but her husband noted that the local hospital lacked the necessary resources to stabilize her. She was transferred to the University Hospital of Coimbra, where she ultimately passed away.

Colleagues from the Mantevida Hospital and the Regional Nursing Council of the Federal District (Coren-DF) have expressed grief, praising her dedication and humanity in patient care. Following a social media mobilization by her religious community, funds were successfully raised to cover the costs of repatriating her body to Brazil.
