Brazilian nurse dies of shrimp allergy in Portugal
Amanda Nascimento, a 29-year-old Brazilian intensive care nurse, died following an allergic reaction to shrimp during her honeymoon in Leiria, Portugal. The incident occurred just 11 days after her wedding to Tiago Nascimento on October 10.
According to her husband, the couple had lunch at a restaurant where Amanda consumed seafood. Although she had reportedly asked restaurant staff about the ingredients, her brother-in-law stated she believed the dish contained only fish and no shrimp.
Following the reaction, Nascimento was taken to a local hospital in Leiria. Due to the severity of her condition, she required a transfer to Coimbra University Hospital, located approximately 49 miles away. However, she suffered cardiac arrest and passed away before reaching the second facility.
