Brazilian Nursing Councils Join Conasems Congress to Boost SUS Care
The Federal Council of Nursing (Cofen) and the Rio Grande do Sul Regional Nursing Council (Coren‑RS) are taking part in the 39th Congress of the National Council of Municipal Health Secretariats (Conasems) in Porto Alegre from 12‑15 July 2026. The four‑day event gathers health managers, professionals, researchers and institutional representatives from across Brazil to discuss challenges and prospects for the Unified Health System (SUS). Cofen and Coren‑RS will host an institutional booth showcasing nursing contributions, interactive displays and a virtual‑reality experience on nursing pioneer Anna Nery. A highlighted lecture on "Nursing Protocols and Medication Prescription in Primary Care" will be delivered by Scheila Mai, a collective‑health doctor and member of the Coren‑RS protocol commission.
The congress also features the 21st "Brasil, aqui tem SUS" showcase, which recognises successful municipal health initiatives, and follows a previous edition in Belo Horizonte that attracted over 14,000 participants.
