Brazilian officials request infrastructure measures to prevent floods and fires
In Jandira, Councilman Fábio Camilo dos Santos (Fábio Betera) has requested the desilting and cleaning of the Barueri-Mirim River near Vila Márcia to prevent flooding during heavy rains. He warned that sediment and waste accumulation increase the risk of overflows that harm residents and businesses. Additionally, in partnership with Councilman Marcos da Silva Ferreira (Beda), he proposed the construction of a stormwater detention reservoir, or “piscinão”, near the Sagrado Coração station to improve urban drainage.
In Mato Grosso do Sul, Councilman Ubiratan Canhete de Campos Filho (Bira) has called on the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) to implement preventive measures along the BR-262 highway between Corumbá and Campo Grande. The request includes pruning, mowing, and removing dry vegetation to minimize the risk of forest fires during the dry season. Bira emphasized that fires near the highway could damage power lines and fiber optic cables, potentially isolating Corumbá and disrupting essential services like hospitals and telecommunications.
