Brazilian Olympic marathoner Daniel Nascimento missing since June 19
Brazilian marathon runner Daniel Ferreira Nascimento, a former Olympian and South American record holder, has been missing since 19 June after leaving his home in Paraguaçu Paulista, São Paulo, with only a black backpack. His mother, Valdirene Paula Ferreira, reported his disappearance on social media and filed a police report on 27 July. The case is being investigated by the Delegacia de Investigações Gerais (DIG) in Assis. The Confederação Brasileira de Atletismo (CBAt) also issued a public request for information on the same day.
Nascimento’s career was halted in 2024 when he received a five‑year suspension for testing positive for the anabolic agents drostanolone, metenolone and nandrolone, with the ban back‑dated to 15 July 2024. He previously set the South American marathon record (2 h 04 min 51 s) at the Seoul Marathon in April 2022 and represented Brazil at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Recent leads include possible sightings in Boituva and Assis between 24‑25 June, but no concrete evidence has emerged.
