Brazilian parties endorse Senate candidates Gustavo Mendanha and Celina Leão amid nomination impasses

The Mobiliza party in Goiás formally backed former Aparecida de Goiânia mayor Gustavo Mendanha as its sole candidate for one of the two Senate seats from the state, while allowing party members to choose independently for the second seat.

In the Federal District, conventions of the MDB, Podemos and a joint PSD‑Avante meeting left several nomination questions unresolved. The MDB confirmed support for governor Celina Leão but kept the Senate slot open, noting that Rafael Prudente could run if Michelle Bolsonaro does not enter the race. Podemos also pledged support to Leão yet will field its own Senate candidate, Christian Viana, while the PSD‑Avante alliance endorsed former governor José Roberto Arruda for the Senate.

These developments highlight ongoing strategic negotiations within Brazil’s major parties as they shape their slates for the upcoming federal elections.
