Brazilian PCC labeled a transnational mafia by Italian and Brazilian officials

Italian prosecutor Giovanni Tartaglia told a gathering at the São Paulo Public Ministry on 23 March that the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) exemplifies a new geopolitics of world crime, stressing that organized crime ignores borders and requires a collective, international response.

Brazilian prosecutor Lincoln Gakiya, speaking at the same Brazil‑Italy "Conferência di Consenso," said the PCC exhibits all hallmarks of Italian mafias—corporate structure, territorial domination, state infiltration, public‑official corruption, transnational reach, and sophisticated money‑laundering. He highlighted the group’s partnership with Italy’s ‘Ndrangheta, claiming a logistical network that spans continents. Both officials called for deeper cooperation between Brazil and Italy to combat such transnational criminal organisations, and Gakiya criticised the United States’ recent terrorist‑designations of the PCC and the Red Command as unhelpful for Brazil.
