Brazilian police launch large‑scale operations against rural and border crime
The Rio Grande do Sul state government carried out the second edition of Operation Pampa on 10‑11 June, deploying 1,635 agents and 380 vehicles across 17 municipalities. The joint effort of the Military Brigade and Civil Police resulted in 62 arrests, the seizure of 12 firearms, 2,465 rounds of ammunition, 1.7 kg of drugs, counterfeit herbicides, and the recovery of a R$150,000 agricultural tractor. Authorities also recorded 27 crime reports, issued 56 infractions and inspected over 1,000 vehicles.
In the neighbouring state of Paraná, a police road‑safety unit using a detection dog intercepted six pistols of foreign origin on an inter‑state bus traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The weapons, manufactured in Turkey and Argentina, were found in a passenger's luggage; the 21‑year‑old woman was arrested and charged with illegal possession. The seizure was part of a broader strategy to curb the flow of firearms and drugs across the state's borders.
