PC Farias biography challenges official accounts of death and corruption
Journalist Xico Sá is set to release a new book in September titled ‘O Tesoureiro: o esquema de corrupção, a fuga espetacular e a morte de PC Farias’, which explores the life and death of former treasurer Paulo César Farias.
Sá provides new insights into the political influence Farias held during Fernando Collor’s presidency and his ambition to establish a powerful political clan in Alagoas. The author challenges the official version of Farias’s 1996 death in Maceió, suggesting the crime scene was tampered with and that the investigation may have been a coordinated effort between police and politicians to cover up a ‘queima de arquivo’ (silencing of a witness).
Additionally, Sá recounts his role in locating Farias in London in 1993, providing a detailed look at the corruption schemes and the high-stakes political environment of Brazil’s early redemocratization period.
